The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is making significant headway in reconsidering its previous stance on crypto exchanges. In a recent development, the Acting Chairman of the SEC, Mark Uyeda, has hinted at the possibility of abandoning plans that would have required certain crypto firms to register as exchanges.

SEC to Abandon Plans Requiring Crypto Exchanges to Register as ATSs

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is considering abandoning its plans to require certain crypto firms to register as exchanges, according to Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda. Speaking at the Washington Conference of the Institute of International Bankers, Uyeda revealed that he has already asked SEC staff for options on abandoning parts of the proposed changes that would broaden the definition of alternative trading systems (ATSs) to include crypto exchanges. This comes after the SEC received significant negative public comments on the definition of ’exchange’ with respect to crypto.
